Dear SD folks,
I am using SD methods to analyze a problem of resource savings, ecology
and economy relationships in a separate region.
I am looking for any research or works done on this topic.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Resource savings
Hello Anton Chernorubashkin,
Im also working on integration of environmental and economical issues
in a regional economy under feedback perspective. Well have a
presentation in SD98, Quebec. Also, I know that, Dr. Mathias Ruth from
Boston University Center for Energy and Environment is working on such
integrations, may be on a more conceptual level. He may be helpfull for
you (www.bu.edu/CEES).

Resource savings
Dear SD Folks:
Anton Chernorubashkin asked about models concerning resource use, ecology,
and economics in a "separate region." This note addresses his request.
Don Seville and I have recently been working on a modeling project with the
Sustainability Institute (Donella Meadows new not-for-profit system
dynamics organization) and the Sustainability and Global Change Program at
Prescott College, under a NASA grant. Our prototype sd model investigates
the drivers of increasing fossil fuel use, other resource use, and suburban
"sprawl" (growth into undeveloped areas) in a region centered around a city.
Models that have been helpful include:
Urban Dynamics, Forrester -- We started with the condensed version from
Alfeld and Grahams "Introduction to Urban Dynamics", which is still in
print and available (as well as "Urban Dynamics") through Productivity Press
at <www.ppress.com/>. Forresters full model is available from Ventana with
the Vensim PLE software at <www.vensim.com/>.
Rural Community Model, Lou Alfeld -- His company, Decision Dynamics Inc.,
has a simulator that applies "Urban Dynamics" to development in rural
communities. See <www.decisiondynamics.com/> under "RCM."
Tom Fiddamans MIT thesis model. We included carbon and climate sectors, to
track how the local climate would likely change if the entire world
increased or decreased carbon emissions at the same rate. Toms model was
quite helpful. See <home.earthlink.net/~tomfid/>.
Nathan Forresters modeling of urban and suburban development dynamics.
Hes at <www.mindspring.com/~nathanf>.
Wed be interested in hearing about other work in this area.
Sincerely,
Drew
