This is Andy Ford responding to Daniel Castillo Brievas inquiry about =
combining system dynamics with a Geographical Information System, a GIS. =
Its gratifying to see so many responses to this inquiry, especially =
for those of us working in the environmental area.
Hallie Anthony, one of our MS students at WSU, did her thesis on this =
topic. The SD model was a dynamic model of the water flows in the Mono =
Basin in California. This model is described in Chapter 4 of Modeling =
the Environment. Hallies GIS and its connection to the SD model is =
described on the books website. Go to:
http://www.islandpress.org/ford
click on opening paragraphs from Appendicies, then click on Appx I for =
"Spatial Dynamics." Youll see an example of her GIS output along with =
an explanation of what she went through to create the GIS and the link =
to the SD model.
