SD for Intermodal terminals ?

Hello,
Im trying to model an intermodal terminal (a place where for example
containers are changed from one transportation mode to another) in order to
see if we can make it work more efficiently. My first tought was that I had
to model it with discrete event techniques. Im asking me know (as I am
more familiar with SD than discrete event simulation) if it would not be
possible to model it with SD and if there are already SD-models in this
transportation-field ?
Thank you very much in advance,
Many regards,
