dear list members,

we are aiming to use system dynamics modelling in the following situations:

1. the use of system dynamics in the short term and long term forecasting of agricultural
produce with special reference to field crops and perennial fruits such as grapes, oranges
(citrus), pomme and stone fruits which have significant processing sectors of different
proportions of total output (eg wine industry, orange juice and preserving). both demand and
supply side perspectives are being considered.

2. an integrated dynamic model of the long term relationship between the financial
statements of balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement balanced against
scenarios of the stock markets need to seek a stable/growing share price combined with a
satisfactory dividend and related return on shareholder funds policy. hence the application of
sd would go beyond the smaller enterprise.

3. other areas of interest for system dynamics application include the development and
evaluation of short term and long term strategic plans, budget analysis and assessment,
business audits and benchmarking.

any assistance and comments appreciated. identification of any specific references and/or
other sources of information on methodology, data etc would be appreciated. item 1 is
probably the most pressing and challenging area of our investigation at present.

regards

We have been doing a "potentially" related research: Long-term agro-socio-economic dynamics of
irrigation-based regional development projects. The specific context is GAP (Southeast Turkey
development project). There has been a PhD thesis and a few papers published. The work continues.

I suggest to use the requirement analysis and logical design applied for
the development of simulators using other methodologies in order to have
information and criteria for the conceptualization phase for the system
dynamics modeling development.

For example some years ago I developed an expert system for farm planning
applied to Argentine farms (you can see the abstract at
www.agen.ufl.edu/~compconf/6thProc/delgado.html) using Prolog. It will be
possible to rescue the representation and simulations of some scenarios and
the main concepts used (boundaries, system approach, problem articulation,
patterns of behavior, key feedback loops, etc).

Sincerely.
