Has anyone successfully linked their Stella models to ArcView 3.1. I am
writing population models and want to link them to cells on a GIS system.

I have post grad students building a school district planning model which
integrates Powersim with MapInfo via a spreadsheet interface. Integration at
the API level using C++ or Visual Basic would be more elegant and less
subject to the eccentricities of Microsofts DDE linkages. I believe Stella
/ IThink can similarly be integrated with MapInfo, and presumably ArcView.

The supply side of the model identifies existing school capacity by location
with policy levers for creating new schools in a developing region. The
demand side model includes a population model for generating overall
demograph change by age group; household change by census district (in
developed areas there is a ceiling on households, but numbers of primary
school age children will vary according to the age profile of the adults; in
developing areas, household numbers will grow up to the geographic / planning
control limits).

Lou,

We here at Landair International in the UK have had considerable
experience in linking Vensim to another MapInfo Professional, an
alternative GIS to ArcView. The dynamic linkage between these products
has meant that we have been able to undertake a number of high profile
solutions, particulary for the UK Military.

Whilst this doesnt directly answer your query, I would like to point out
that we do not consider ourselves wedded to any particular tecnological
solution, just the best. I would be more than willing to further explain
our reasons for using MapInfo over ArcView, and some of the general ways
in which the dynamic data exchange between MI and Vensim is achieved.

I you would like further information on who we are and what we do, then
I would suggest you vist our web site (at http://www.landair.co.uk)
