Exchanging vdf files

We have received a vdf file from a user of a Venapp compiled game. We wish to load this into Vensim DSS to debug. We have the original Vensim model in the DSS environment but it cannot load the file in the Datasets window. The VDF file has all variables included.

However, if we use the compiled Venapp ourselves, we can load it (we have a resume command included within the Venapp intro screen)

We believe we have the configuration management right. Before we check this again, are we right in thinking the VDF files should be transferable.

Thanks

The VDF files should be readable.

Is it encrypted by any chance?

Also try exporting the VDF file from the Venapp (or even Vensim itself).

It was not encrypted (e.g. zip) except in Vensim's proprietary format.

Could it be to do with the Venapp distribution build that will limit exchange of the VDF files? The files would have been created on a machine with different regional settings (and perhaps .ini file to our DSS version)

Can you email it to me and I will try and import it?

If it is from a Venapp distribution you have made you will need to decrypt it - edit vensim.ini to add the line

VenappBuilder=1

then open Vensim and use the menu item Help>Decrypt File to select the .vdf file - after that it should work just like any other .vdf file.
