Please let me know if you are aware of a Vensim PLE- model
available for simulating simple soil carbon budget and land
use changes (under-graduate level) or if you are in contact
with people interested in such models using Vensim.

Thank you in advance, Bo

Models of soil carbon cycle simulation for teaching

Check out the following:

Jones, D. K. 1984. Soil Nitrogen Dynamics. Masters Thesis. Hanover, NH:
Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College.

As I recall, Barry Richmond supervised this thesis.

Also see,

Bach, N L, and Saeed, K. 1992. Food Self-sufficiency in Vietnam: a search
for a viable solution. system Dynamics Review. 8(2): 129-148.

This paper addresses land use and changes in soil fertility.

The models in above writings can probably be simplified for use at
undergraduate level.

See:

Thornley, John H.M. (1998) Grassland Dynamics: An ecosystem
simulation model. Wallingford, Oxon, UK ; New York : CAB
International. 241pp.

There is definitely feedback here among the grass, sheep, and soil.
And I think the equations could be relatively easy to convert to
system dynamics notation. However, you might first want to build
the model to understand it, and then simplify it for your students.
