Hi,

I have a Vensim PLE Plus file that does not open when it is located in the folder C:Model but does open when I put it into another folder.
The error message is that venplep perfomed an illegal operation.
What's wrong?

Thanks

I do remember something similar to this quite some time ago. Are you using 5.4b?

Also, what are the exact folder and model names that cause the failure?

I use PLE Plus 5.4b
The exact directory of the file is:
C:\My Documents\Work\PHD\Thesis\model\Financial Fragility developed.mdl

And there is also:
C:\My Documents\Work\PHD\Thesis\model\Financial Fragility developed with MP.mdl

I just need to put the files on the desktop and I can open them. If I then save them back to the previous directory the same thing occurs if I try to open them again.

I don't have any problem but it sounds like it might be something related to the file open commands used by the shell. You might try uninstalling Vensim and then reinstalling it to see if that fixes the problem. If not you can work around it by opening Vensim and then using the File menu to open the models.

What operating system are you using?

I was using WIN98 at my office (the computer has been changed today so now I have WINXP) and at home I use WINME.
The error occured both on WIN98 and WINME.
I tried to open directly from Vensim but it did not help.

I think there must be something that is in the model triggering the problem. Do you use and GET XLS... functions with relative directories or aliases? If you post the model I can take another look but the same model names and directories do not cause any problems for me.

Everything is back to normal now (the problem occured only once with winXP (at least for the moment): the first time I opened the file. I do not have any external data.
Maybe a problem with win98 (Vensim has not generated the problem anymore with winME since I use the files saved while working with winXP).
