Dear System Dynamics Community,
Professor to the university of Nantes (France), Logistics Department (IUT of Saint-Nazaire) I work on the phenomenon of bullwhip effect on the supply chain.
Someone would be able :
- to counsel me the literature adapted to this topic
- to mail me the model that he would have constructed (I use Powersim)
Thank you in advance.
Best regards

You will find the issue of "Management Science" Vol 43, No 4, 1997 useful
for your research on the Bullwhip effect.
I, together with Prof. Kenneth Preiss, am doing ongoing research on supply
networks dynamics (we have a two semester course on this subject) here at
Ben Gurion University. We are using the famous BeerGame model as a starting
platform for the research, and it is implemented with the Ithink software.
Would it be very interesting to exchange results and approaches between us.

bullwhip effect on the supply chain.
Bullwhip effects also occur within businesses. My book uses the case of the
Domestic Manufacturing Company, based on a consultancy assignment with a
white goods manufacturer, in which the bullwhip is very pronounced. The
problem is modelled both qualitatively and quantitatively, policies are
redesigned both experimentally and by the use of dynamic optimisation.
Hope this is helpful.

Lee, Padmanabhan, and Whang have an interesting article in Management Science
/Vol.43, No.4, April 1997 (pp. 546-548) entitled "Information Distortion in a
Supply Chain: The Bullwhip Effect" that you may find helpful.

For a nice complement to the SD interpretation of amplification of
disturbances up a supply chain, see Steve Graves article in the first
issue of the new M&SOM journal:
Stephen C. Graves, "A Single-Item Inventory Model for a Nonstationary
Demand Process." Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Vol. 1 No.
1, 1999.

Is the "bullwhip effect" being discussed qualitatively different from the
dynamics of the beer game with ill-conceived replenishment rules and long
delays?
