Hi,
I am relatively new to VenSim and systems dynamics. I am currently working on project that needs some systems dynamics modeling and Vensim is one of the products we are looking at. Some of the main functionality we would want in the tool are:
1. ability to import/export to excel
2. ability to use output data from one model as input into another model
3. ability to customize an interface (GUI) for inputs and outputs.
The comparison chart of the different versions of Vensim is sort of confusing to me. Can anyone suggest which version would best suit my needs given the functionality that I am looking for?
Thanks in advance.
which version is right for me?

Given that you are relatively new to system dynamics the first step is probably to determine what kind of issues you want to address with the models and not how you want to present the models. From your list, I would actually recommend that you simply use Excel to do everything. This might actually work quite well if you intend to use relatively simple model constructs with limited feedback. If you use Vensim you will probably need Vensim DSS to handle the interface component though you might also look at Vensim PLE Plus and Sable or Vensim Professional and Sable.
Hi Bob,
Thanks for the reply. I am currently inheriting a model build by someone else, need to get upto speed and figure out some of the issues mentioned above asap. The model was built using the free eval version. Now, the task come onto me to continue working on the model and add these functionalities into the model. The model is fairly large and complicated with about 100+ variables and innumerous feedback loops.
At the least, if you can tell me whether PLE Plus has the ability to use output data from one model as input into another model?
Thanks again.

PLE Plus does allow the output of one model to be used as the input for another - see the chapter on data in the User's Guide. Model output can simply be treated as another data source.
As to transferring licenses - this can be done as long as the original installation is removed. Reinstall using the registration code from the original purchase.
