model reader

Post by maxin454 »

Hi. I have a question regarding to vensim model reader installation. Is the VenDLL32.dll installed automatically into a pre-defined destination? During the installation process, it will ask two installation directories, one for the main program and the other for the supporting files. I'm assuming I can choose wherever I want to install and the VenDLL32.dll will always be installed to, for example in Windows 32 bit system, C:\Windows\System32. I encountered a situation when installing in Windows XP, an error msg shows up saying that the dll is not installed properly. I went ahead and check the dll was not in C:\Windows\system32 but in the folder with other supporting files (sample model, etc.). I never had this issue before and I'm curious why that would happen. Please help. Many thanks.

You cannot choose where the DLL is installed.

When did you see the error message appearing?

Thanks. That's what I thought. The dll will automatically go to C:\Windows\System32 in 32 bit system no matter where you choose to install main program and supporting files. The error message appears in the end of the installation process, and it did prevent my all application from running normally.

When you packaged your application, did you package it as a .VPA file?

If your app needs the Vensim DLL, you need to package as a .VPA, then open the VPA using the model reader. This will then start your app.

Yes, I know that. The application is in the form of .vpa. Most of the users run the application using model reader with no problem, because the error message never comes out when they install. And the installation is usually fairly easy, people just click through it. Just one user, when installing the model reader, the VenDLL32.dll was not installed in the correct directory and an error/warning message from vensim appeared. I'm just wondering why that would happen. Is that related to whether the user is administrator or not?

The user should be an administrator when installing the model reader (or any version of Vensim).

It could have been that the files were corrupted during download, can you try downloading again to see if that fixes it?
