about model time step setting and function use

Hi Tony,

I have two questions about model time step and a function "GET XLS DATA".

1. I set annual as my model time step (figure 1 left), and run the game for one time step (2014-2015), why the model shows some sub-annual time (such as 2014.20, 2014.40) in the time axis (figure 1 right)? How can I set the model to show 2014 and 2015 only.

2. I am trying to use the function "GET XLS DATA" to read some time series data from an excel file into the model. When I run the model in the "GAME" format, the model results (figure 2 up) does not match the values in the excel file (figure 2 down). I also attached a simple example to show this. Run the model "test.mdl" in the GAME format, and compare the results with excel file, you will find the problem showing in figure 2.

Vensim version: DSS 6.1C
Computer system: Windows 7

Many thanks!

Kai

I think what you're seeing is a consequence of the settings in the Scaling tab of the Control Panel. however, I'm not sure you'll be able to make a choice that's satisfactory at all possible times. Is this a Venapp or a regular model?

I'll take a look at your example.

There does appear to be a storage or display issue with the GET XLS variable in gaming mode. However, if you add an auxiliary, b=a, it takes on the correct values, so I think the underlying sim is OK. I'll investigate further.

Thanks for your reply.

About the first question, I tried to change settings in the Scaling tab of the Control Panel. But the graph still shows me the time like 2014.20, and 2014.40. It is a regular model developed by Vensim DSS.

Go to the control panel and set the number of horizontal divisions.

Next, right click on the graph tool, and where it says "X Divisions", select "As Global".

That should fix things.

Tony.

Hi Tony,

It works, many thanks. Sorry again for my mistake about the license. It will not happen again.

Best,
Kai
