The SD group at London Business School has recently released a microworld on
the issue oh hiring, training, and retaining employees at consultancies. You
might want to contact them for more information:

I cant direct you to any literature on this matter but I have been
doing a little research in an Australian organisation on employee
turnover as part of a larger SD project. There are many drivers for
turnover - some obvious, some not. In this particular case drivers
include (but are not limited to): recompense, promotional prospects,
motivation (how are staff treated within the org. In this case the
staff we are looking at are considered the lowest of the low. The crazy
thing is that they are the people who bring in the money!), work load,
perception of likelihood of being made redundant (high). These are
fairly obvious. Those that werent so obvious included the current
economic condition and, more importantly, the personnel policies in
place including termination handouts/conditions. We found that employees
may want to leave but are putting off this move because of internal
personnel policies which make it advantageous for them to stay for a
given period of time. These policies, and the generally weak economy,
account for the current low turnover rate. In the past it has reached
200% per annum.

Hope this helps a bit.
