Dartmouth College
Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies - Tenure Track
Environmental Systems Modeling
Dartmouth College is expanding its interdisciplinary environmental studies
program through a tenure track appointment at the assistant professor level to
begin fall 1999. We seek a natural or social scientist using mathematical
and/or simulation modeling approaches to study environmental problems with an
emphasis on large-scale systems. We are especially interested in
land/atmosphere interactions as they relate to problems of global environmental
change or the effects of pollutants on natural systems Other areas of interest
include human population and resource use and the sustainability of
human-dominated ecosystems. The successful candidate will be expected to
establish a vigorous externally-funded research program and to teach at the
undergraduate and graduate levels in the Environmental Studies Program.
Courses might include introductory environmental science, global environmental
issues, environmental modeling, and advanced topic courses in environmental
systems and environmental policy. Candidates must demonstrate an interest in
participating in a broadly based program drawing on the natural sciences, the
humanities and the social sciences. Individuals with an awareness of the
policy implications of their work and having the background to teach courses
that bridge environmental science and policy are preferred.
Ph.D. in a relevant area such as ecosystem science, engineering, geography,
earth sciences, or a related environmental field. Submit curriculum vitae,
statement of research and teaching interests, representative reprints, and
three letters of reference to: Dr. Ross A. Virginia, Chair, Environmental
Studies Search Committee, Environmental Studies Program, Dartmouth College,
6182 Steele Hall- Room 306, Hanover, NH 03755-3577. FAX (603) 646-1682.
