Pyrolysis modeling

Hello, I am new to the forum, vensim and modelling in general.
I am taking a systems course and after making a few example modells, we are tasked to make one of our own. I want to make one that is usefull for my tesis which is about charcoal. Previously a had designed and built a retort empirically and I want to model the process in order to optimize my design.
Does anyone know any good sources of formulas for gas flows, temperatures, radiative and conductive heating, etc.
I have found a pyrolysis model (just the pyrolysis not the retort work) that I think I can use, but I don´t know how to use the equation in vensim. But I think thats a question for latter.
