John,

Regarding prison populations you may find some interesting findings in the
research of

Paul E. McCold (1993):
"The role of fiscal policy in producing prison population dynamics: a trend
analysis and dynamic simulation of felony offender processing in New York
State 1975-1988.
Dissertation (Ph.D.),
State University of New York Albany, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs
and Policy School of Criminal Justice.

I am beginning a study on possible "causal factors" relating to
expanding prison populations, primarily in the United States. Obviously,
this is a very macro type endeavor, however, I would appreciate any
input that may relate to the problem. I perceive this growing challenge
to continue unless it is entertained on a most systemic level. Any
comments would be appreciated. Thank you. John Eggers, President,
