Forest modeling

To Andrew Jones,
I received your query through Nathan Forrester, who is my
brother-in-law. I am developing a model of the Amazon (Brazil) in
which I portray economic land uses and their rate of deforestatiom in
an effort to establish the ecological consequences for Carbon release
(forest burning), Biodiversity conservation and Desertification (the
delay in rainfall caused by less evapotranspiration due to gradual
deforetsation). It is my doctoral dissertation and is not yet
finished. I intend to present this work at the Fifth Biennal Conf of
the Ecological Economics Society (ISEE) in Chile in Nov. I spent 16
months (95-96)working at the Univ of MD with Bob Costanza. Soon I
shall have a draft in English (I am at a Brazilian University). The
main difficulty is lack of data and scientific knowledge about the
ecology of such vast area. If you are interested I can send a draft of
my presentation when it is ready (around Sept). I would appreciate
receiving further info about this new Sustainability Institute.
