Removable drive issue

I'm running DSS x64 version 8.2.0, and i'm having a new problem. My company has us keep all our work on share drives. That's been true as long as I've been here (years), and Vensim has been happy enough.
Today I tried to create and run a new model. i could save it to the share drive, but, when i try to run it, I get "Stop from Vensim: Cannot open runs on removeable drives." That has never happened before. It works when I save to the C: drive.
Any ideas?
Bill

I hope they haven't made you go back to floppies! I assume these are normal network shares, with a path like \\myshare\mystuff\ ?

I've searched the Vensim source, and this is in there. I've never seen this as an error before though. I think this is something from many years ago (floppy disc drive days) that hasn't cropped up in a long long time.
Would you mind emailing us (
vensim@vensim.com) with the full path to the run? Don't need the run, just the path. I can probably just comment out the relevant code in Vensim, but the full path will let me confirm for sure.

I do remember this from the floppy days (that's why I mentioned them). I think the intent is to prevent (a) bad performance on slow media, and (b) loss of data when a source is "ejected". It's probably no longer relevant. Question is why this only came up now?

Well, there is this 8” square paper envelope with shiny black plastic showing through some holes.

The solution for now is to not map a networked drive to either A: or B: (they have traditionally be reserved for floppy drives). Using the full network name is fine, or map the network drive to a different letter.
This restriction will be removed in the next release of Vensim.
