Problem with Flow Tool

Post by WVUBio »

The latest version of PLE (10.0.0) doesn't allow one to have a multi-point flow that reconnects to a given stock - the flow disappears.

This works using the old GUI but not with the new GUI.

Is this a bug in the new version or I'm I missing something.

A diagram showing what I'm trying to do (the flow called "loop) is in the attached file and was created with the old GUI.

Any suggestions or fixes would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you really need to do this, you can draw a multi point flow (hold CTRL or SHIFT while using the arrow/flow tool to create points) and finish with a cloud. Then merge the original level with the cloud.

I'm puzzled as to why you would want to do this though.

Thanks for the quick response.

Could you walk me through how to merge the original level with the cloud.

What I'm trying to do is to create a very simple example of the effect of recycled flow on recovery time to equilibrium following a disturbance.
For example, a portion of CO2 added to the atmosphere is quickly returned and not permanently "drained".
As a result the Mean Residence Time is much shorter than the recovery time to equilibrium following a pulsed increase in the input.

For the future it'd be nice to have it work the way the old GUI does.

Thanks again for the help.

The problem with the structure you are trying to add is that the outflow and inflow are identical. You will not see any behaviour.

Sorry for the previous repost.

I figured out how to do the merge you suggested.

Allow very simple, when modified by increasing the input at a given time (If then else statement), I can compare the recovery dynamics between models with different degrees of recycling (see attached figure).

Very simplistic but I find it useful.

If there is a better way, I'd appreciate the insights.
