I have not used a previously working model in almost a year, but when I tried to open it today Vensim opened it As Text rather than As Sketch. An old post from Bob suggested this was due to a syntax error, and to try CTRL-T. But only "not used" errors are in the model. I also seem to recall that not having linked spreadsheets in the same folder as the model creates this error, but again that does not seem to be the case in my model.

Any ideas? Any recent changes to Vensim (I am using 10.1.3)?

Have you tried view-as sketch?

Oh yes. It reverts to the proper model and simulates perfectly. It just won't open as a sketch.

Is it a binary (vmfx or vpmx) or text (mdl) file format?

Does this behavior persist after re-saving the model under a new name?

What are the settings under Model>Settings>File Format?

Text (mdl)
Model>Settings>File : File formal options Preserve Original Ordering; As Originally Entered

But I think I remembered the problem. If the GET XLS files are not open when you open the model, Vensim defaults to the Text view; if the spreadsheets are open, Vensim opens in the Sketch view. However it appears that if I open the model without the spreadsheets open, Vensim opens the spreadsheets. However, it appears that if I do not switch from Text to Sketch mode, then close and reopen the model, it opens in Text mode. Perhaps this is by design, as the last View before closing?

No, this is not correct.

This is the default. And if the spreadsheets cannot be found, you would be warned before running the simulation.

We would need the model to figure out exactly why it opened in text view. It may be that it was last used in text view.

Well I never use text view, so it was not because I last opened in text view. If you want me to send the model, I can; just tell me where. However, my problem is "solved" so its up to you.

No, this is not correct.

... or at least not the intended behavior. You can send the model to vensim at vensim.com.
