Tom -

Productivity Press used to carry a book called "The Dynamics of Ecosystem
Succession". I dont remember the author. You might also look into the
Artificial Life literature - theres been lots of cellular automata-type work
on that. Finally, I have an economic paper on species valuation somewhere in
my office. Ill forward it to you if it looks at all interesting. Hope youre
doing well.

Ecosystem Succession. A General Hypothesis and a Test Model of a Grassland. Luis
T. Gutierrez & Willard R. Fey. MIT Press, 1980.

We (Resource Systems Group, Vermont) are very involved in ecosystem modeling and
adapting it to a GIS to create a dynamic GIS. Interested in hearing of others
doing similar work.
