Dear Ivan:

We´ve been working on such project for the Ministry of Defence of the Czech
republic. The model contains two parts:
1. Demography and Military Schools
2. Mobility of Personnel (promotions rules, physical age, years in service)
Main purpose of the simulator is to test some results of different
promotions and recruitment policy, so we can see, what structure of our army
can we expect in 10-15 years. Because of past policies, when the Russian
model of army reigned here we had lots of officers (captains and up...) and
almost no sergeants. This state had to be changed, so more sergeant ranks
were added, different reasons for promotion were set up... and the rest of
the story tells the simulation.
If you need more information, I´ll try to prepare it (some parts of the
project are in Czech language).
Best regards

Marek Susta

The Air National Guard in St. Louis constructed a model several years ago
that addressed retention in the Guard. It may be helpful. I cannot find the
name of the contact person, although at the time he was a member of this list.

[Hosts note: I looked into this a little and it was Robert Glitz who posted
that information. Also Keith Linard from Australia has posted a number of things.
To see what they posted check http://www.optimlator.com and search for their names.
It is also worth mentioning that Geoff Coyle and Eric Wolstenholme have published
a number of papers/book chapters in this area - see the system dynamics bibliography
available from http://www.vensim.com/sdmail/sdbib.html ]

Fellow Analysts,

Mr John Verdon has asked me to post a query on the system concerning studies
on military human resources. Mr Verdon is a social scientist working in the
Canadian Department of National Defence in the Directorate of Strategic Human
Resources Coordination. He is currently working on demographic models of the
Canadian population and the potential of shortages in the supply of eligible
recruits in coming years because of the aging Canadian population. If you
are aware of any similar studies you can contact Mr Verdon at
j.verdon@issc.debbs.ndhq.dnd.ca.

Thank you in advance,
