- Running and analysing models in Sable
- Creating a run-time application
Part II – Build your own interface
For this section, you will be provided with all the tools required to create a simple interface for a model. You will be able to include your own model, or use the tutorial model. To make the best use of available time, a number of template screens will be available for use with your model, to include analysis and run screens. Vensim and Sable Discussion Forum Launched
We are experimenting with a new way of providing Vensim and Sable users with additional support over and above those provided by the User Guide and our training courses. For this purpose, we have created a forum for users of the software to post questions. We will do our best to post answers to these queries and invite other experienced users to suggest solutions also. Through your use and support, we hope that the forum will become a rich, useful resource for Vensim and Sable users.
Forum Topic headings include:
- Modelling Questions - "how do I implement this?"
- Technical Questions - "can the software do this?"
- Suggestions/Bugs - "report software bug or suggested enhancement to the software"
Vensim version 5.1 is now available (all maintenance contract holders should visit the vensim website to download and install this latest version).
New functions and database support
Now it is easier than ever to create the tools you need for your enterprise modelling requirements. The new ODBC connectivity in Vensim DSS version 5.1 means that you can seamlessly link your Vensim models with enterprise data sources both to provide data to your Vensim model and to provide Vensim results to your enterprise. The new ODBC functionality makes it easy to get data out of most databases and to write the results back to those databases. You can transfer values for Constants, Data and Lookups back and forth automatically as simulations are run.
Version 5.1 also has a number of new functions aimed at making it easier to do financial computations the same way they are being done with other modelling tools. Vensim lets you specify the fiscal period you want to work with so that your model can be run using the most convenient time base. The financial functions summarise over the chosen fiscal period making it easy to get annual computations with a monthly model. The new functions include support for straight-line and scheduled depreciation, the internal rate of return and a new net present value function. In addition, we have added in GET XLS LOOKUPS so that you can now easily get Constants, Data and Lookups from spreadsheets.
New basic and advanced course dates have been released, for April 2003. These courses now include the added bonus of a complementary copy of Sable Developer.
