Much appreciated.
I guess 'Senior' refers to age, not knowledge , for me.

Re: Vensim 8 External functions documents & help
I have installed Visual Studio Community 2019 with the Desktop Development with C++ workload.
Will that support the processing called for in the Vensim External functions documentation for Vensim 8 ?
Maybe too simple a question, just want to make sure I have supporting software.

Re: "Nobody ever gets credit" model
Thanks for posting this question/challenge/issue Hamilton. Thank you JJ for your insightful comments. Thank you Tom for a great quote : "It seems like the paper doesn't fully document the models and experiments, so it's hard to know what's missing." How many times has that happened to us a...

Re: Introducing Ventity beta 1
Could you please refer those interested to a document or discussion of Ventity & Vensim interoperability ? Can a Vensim model be loaded into Ventity and modified for the different functionality? Does the Vensim model thus loaded into Ventity have restrictions in terms of its functionality ? Than...

Re: arcane arrays
re; JJ on process Mike Radzicki , Professor at WPI, recommended an approach much like yours in one of his presentations at SD Summer School in July. He recommended thoroughly testing model sub-sections before testing the whole model. Thank you for the reinforcement. You have a good idea here for the...

Re: arcane arrays
JJ says : "About designing good interfaces, It is of course necessary especially as most end users do not participate to the model building and need to compensate for this lacking by a very good interface. But to my opinion there is no interface that compensates fully for the lack of participat...

Re: arcane arrays
Hi JJ, My gripe about using Vensim arrays may in fact reflect my experience as an APL programmer. The way Vensim forces their limted and to my mind constrained user interface on the use of arrays is to me extremely frustrating. All rants aside, it has been a manageable annoyance. Life ain't perfect ...

Re: arcane arrays
Good day JJ I always appreciate the issues you post on important SD & SD software issues. I think the use of the word 'arcane' is not sufficiently relevant here. I don't like using Vensim arrays because they are not easy to use. I say that as someone who , in the past, struggled to become and be...

Transitioning from 32 bit to 64 bit environment
Are there any issues with respect to running Vensim DSS
in a 64 bit system after having a bunch of work done ( models , input files , output files, external functions )
in a 32 bit system ?
Does all previous work transition smoothly with exception of the need to re-compile external functions ?

"Optimal" desktop configuration for running Vensim DSS.
Any guidance or ideas about configuring a desktop PC for optimal performance ? I am no technical expert here; my naive view is that there might be some 'optimal' balance between RAM & processor capabilities that would be best for running Vensim DSS at a given price point, say $1200 - $1500 for t...

Re: linking Vensim and Fortran, possible ? How ?
Fortan code can be run via the 'C' language.
Don't recall the details though.
Did it back in the early 1990s.

Re: Validating one’s version of Vensim on a per release basi
If there are parts of a Vensim model I am debugging and would like to look at the source code, which I can't do ..... an alternative is to simply take that chunk of Vensim model and run it with Vensim PLE to get a consisitency check. In the future I will try to think then post rather than visa versa...

Re: Validating one’s version of Vensim on a per release basi
Yes, I have a model I am trying to debug but want to do this on my own. My independent debugging would be helped though if all the models provided with Vensim had .vdf files provided too , such that I and all Vensim Users would be able to test the relevant functionality by validating my copy of Vens...

Validating one’s version of Vensim on a per release basis.
I am sure the people responsible for maintaining Vensim do extensive and robust tests to ensure each new release is working as per the Manual descriptions of how everything in Vensim should work. I ‘feel’ 99% sure of this being reality. How can any Vensim User be 100% sure that their downloaded vers...

Re: What improvements would you like to see in Vensim?
Request #1: Refer to User’s Guide Section 15 Sensitivity Testing Confidence Bounds ; cash flow:Sensitivity Graph It would be nice if one could add an exogenous data time series to this graph. Such that you have the mean value and confidence bounds from the sensitivity run as shown in the User’s Guid...

Is there an SD archetype for the 'domino theory' ?
Lots of gab in the blog-o-sphere on Libya-Egypt turmoil, describing it in terms of the 'domino theory'. Shades of Vietnam War Era wonkery ? Is there an SD archetype for the 'domino theory' ? Does it involve notions of Vensim's Conveyors ? Does it relate to path dependency and hence involve positive ...

trivial issue ; Vensim 5.9e treats "u_s" as "
Is there a way to get a Vensim Version 5.9e model to get variable names that have the underscore character in them ? That is, I would like to have a variable named "u_s" but it comes out as "u s". If I cannot do this, it is not the end of the World but if this is one's preference...
