Re: Vensim introducing backslashes in Var names before each underbar. Bug?
Thank you for trying to help me. I am typing neither in the equation editor nor in the text editor but I use the variable tool (the tool you'd use to create an auxilliary var) to edit a variable name. When I do that with underbars turned on in the settings, when entering it it looks like 'variable_n...

Vensim introducing backslashes in Var names before each underbar. Bug?
I am working with underbars turned on in variable_names. In an important model I am working in, when I edit a variable name, quotes and backslashes are introduced to the pre-existing part of variable names. Then the variables in which these variable names are used are complaining that they can't fin...

Re: vdfx needed for Vensim 8+? vdf2vdfx?
Update: originally in the model the list of vdfs to be loaded had no file extensions, I have added file extensions ".vdf" and now the model does run. This is strange, because when trying to simulate without file extensions I get a dialouge "Unable to open filename.vdfx Trying to open ...

Re: Warnings suppressed
I have a similar problem when simulating: I get warnings of the kind "WARNING: No data found for (variable name)". I need a complete list, because I'm working with a large model that someone else built. Some of my exogenous input files (vdf) are makeing trouble, I need to narrow down which...

Re: vdfx needed for Vensim 8+? vdf2vdfx?
Hi Tom, hi Admin, wow, thanks a lot for the replies! That means I actually have two separate problems: a) Vensim 8 does not run a model that runs fine in 6.4 b) conversion via command script from vdf to xls and vice versa, does not work. Should we continue the discussion here or open separate thread...

vdfx needed for Vensim 8+? vdf2vdfx?
I have noticed that you have introduced a new file format: vdfx. A model that is running on Vensim 6.4x32 is not running on Vensim 8.0.4 DPx64. Could that be because Vensim 8+ requires vdfx instead of vdf files for data variables? If so, is there a simple way to convert from vdf to vdfx? I'm trying ...

Model simulating uncompiled but not compiled
My problem is that a model is simulating when in "interpret" mode, but not when simulating "compiled". I get a "floating point overflow" error. This is just a problem with this one model. "compiled" simulation works with other models, though. Any idea what cou...

Difference vdfx vs. vdf?
I've searched both this forum and the online vensim documentation (8.2) but could not find any information on the difference between vdfx and vdf (appart from posts on compatibility issues).
Could you elaborate a bit as to:
a) what the difference is
b) your motivation for the change?

Re: max character length Data sources field?
How much space do you need? A possible way to mitigate the length is to combine data sources into one or a few master vdf files, by using a separate data model. Hi Tom, we usually load lots of files and in the past reverted to using strongly abbreviated file names to avoid the issue. It would be he...

Re: max character length Data sources field?
There used to be a limit, but it was removed a couple of years ago. What version are you using? We are / I am using several different versions e.g. 6.4 (Win), 7.3.4 DSS (Mac DP, SP), and we also have a version 8.0 (Win) on one or two machines I think and maybe some others in the range of 6 and 7 (W...

max character length Data sources field?
I would like to know if there is a limit to the amount of characters that can be entered in the field "Data sources" under the advanced tab of simulation control, what that limit is and whether or not that depends on the Vensim version. And if there is a character limit, I would like to kn...

I have found that on the Mac it may be possible by using BB-Edit:

It's a bit difficult for me because I'm not a programmer by education, but it looks promising

@ administrator: cool that you are implementing it for some aspects in the next release. I'm not sure what you mean by the "new sketch tool", but I guess that's just because I use 7.3.4?

Delay conveyor sensitive to time step?
Attached you find a small model that uses a conveyor in the aging flow. a) What I don't understand is why the model is not in equilibrium even if the initial values of the stocks are set to the values at the end of the simulation . b) If the time step is changed this has an influence on the simulati...

Re: Initialize from last run?
If there is a change in model, then Model/compare to... should reveal it. However, I sometimes encounter the error message that a simulation can't be based on another one even though Model/compare to... yields "no significant difference". In such cases it's hard for me to know what I've ch...

How to sort custom graphs alphabetically?
I'm working on a large model and a lot of custom graphs have accumulated. The graphs are listed in the order they were made. I know it's possible to sort them by hand, but they are just too many to do that by now. I'm not finding my graphs any more. There is no search function either. It would be go...

printing into pdf is what I have been doing. Re: How-to batch-export custom graphs (using .cmd files)?
Thanks Tom. The export command that you have linked to, seems to export to the clip-board only. I’m afraid this would overwrite the exported clib-board as the second figure is exported? Is there no way to export to a wmf file that is written into a folder? There may be a way to tweak this to use a s...

how to unload cin-file via script command?
When a script command opens a model, it sometimes has cin-files loaded. I would like to unload these before I load other cin-files using SIMULATE>READCIN & SIMULATE>ADDCIN. But I'm not sure which command could accomplish that.

how to weigh newer data more heavily in calibration?
It's not rare that older data is less reliable, especially in my work in developing countries. REcent data may be measurements, whereas older data may be estimates only, or the measurement frequency has increased recently. Hence when calibrating manually and I face a trade-off between of getting a g...
