Custom plot string labels
Hi, The Vensim help https://www.vensim.com/documentation/ref_get_var_vals.html describes the \/ method for displaying a string variable for a variable label in a custom plot. The example shows how this method works for two elements. Can the method also work when the name of the range is passed inste...

Re: can't print to pdf (mac)
Follow-up: the guidance from 2010 for Mac appears still to work (*). Select portions of a CLD, Edit > Copy. Open Preview App, then File > New from Clipboard will "paste" what was on the clipboard. Preview allows save to pdf. This even works for a single custom graph. (*) This appears not t...

Re: can't print to pdf (mac)
Using Vensim 8.2.1 on Mac (DSS and PLE), and having the same issue. File > Print Preferences dialog shows *no* printers from which to select, not even a print-to-pdf options. Is this a Mac setting thing, telling Mac OS which applications can access the printer?

Folks,
SMOOTH3 *is* implemented in Ventity. The attached revision is closer to the Vensim implementation of World 3. (Baseline results are practically indistinguishable from the earlier version.)
Best regards,
Rob

World3 in Ventity
Folks,
Many thanks to Tom Fiddaman for posting the Vensim version of World 3 https://metasd.com/wp-content/uploads/2 ... LD3-03.zip. Attached is a Ventity version of the same model.
Best regards,
Rob

Re: Running Ventity on a Mac using a Windows emulator
I've been using Ventity on a MacBook Pro (ca 2019), running Catalina, Parallels Desktop with a full Windows 10 environment. (Yes, you need to pay for Parallels AND Windows.) Ventity works well, as does Vensim.

Re: Ventity Optimization dialog a bit wonky?
Hi,
Is this fixed yet? Having optimization dialog broke is strongly sub-optimal.

Rob

Persistent Lookup Plots
Hi, I'd like to make a Vensim view that shows graphs of all the lookup tables in a model. Ideally this would be a custom graph, so if I edit the lookup table then I can see the changes. I can hack this as follows: dummy output = LUT(dummy input), then make a custom plot of dummy output using dummy i...

Re: Units (Millions and Billions)
Before we fix the bug, let's make sure it isn't a feature! There are a number of ways Excel can display numbers with a suffix, without changing the underlying number. It would be great if Ventity supported one or more of these when copy-and-pasting, or saving-as. (1) Excel can display numbers with a...

Re: Ventity Optimization dialog a bit wonky?
FWIW, the optimization itself seems to work fine. The optimization dialog does correctly read in a working optimization: it is possible to view all the parameters and values. It seems not possible to change them.

Re: Ventity Optimization dialog a bit wonky?
The Optimization dialog appears to be completely broken. Symptoms: I can create the start of an optimization, but when I try to define the payoff function there's a problem. The Entity and Variable fields are pre-populated, apparently by picking the first in an alphabetical list. While this might se...

UPDATE
Installed (downgraded to) Version 3.0.1, but got the same error.
Installed (double downgraded to) Version 3.0.0 but got the same error again.
Happy to provide any other diagnostic info.

Re: "The configuration is read only" error
I'm getting the same error. Just installed Version 3.0.2. Models that worked on previous versions now give the error. Just as an experiment, creating a brand new model with only one entity containing one stock also gives the error! Super frustrating. Debug info pasted below, as suggested. ==== Produ...

Re: Initializing Entities from a stack?
I like it! I find it takes me a lot of clicking and peeking to build the mental map of where are all the triggers for the actions, especially for someone else's model. A swimlane diagram seems to be a compact way to show who are the invokers / owners / setters of triggers, actions, and initial condi...

Re: Initializing Entities from a stack?
Yep, this can work. My solution (attached) is a bit of a kludge. 1. In the portfolio, an attribute refers to the "header" of the Project A list, and we track the work associated with header Project A. 2. During the action to create a Project B entity, I initialize the work by transferring ...

Re: Initializing Entities from a stack?
I guess rather than a lookup table, the Create Entity action could initialize the project (stock initial conditions, attributes, etc.) using a Vensim-like GET DIRECT DATA, say with a counter to index the row number. Can we do a similar kind of mapping to a Data Entity?

Initializing Entities from a stack?
Hi, Consider a stack of projects to complete, each with a different initial amount of work to do. Since labor is finite, work is completed for only a few projects simultaneously. Naturally I would like to track only the projects that are active, e.g. start the simulation with just a few projects ent...

Re: Ventity Optimization dialog a bit wonky?
Further, when I try to add parameters with the Parameters sub-dialog box, sometimes clicking the (+) shows no new row. The new row does appear if I click "OK", then reopen the Parameters sub-dialog box.

Ventity Optimization dialog a bit wonky?
Hi, I'm setting up optimizations in Ventity using the dialog box from right-click Edit on Analysis>Optimization. Interacting with the dialog box to add a payoff is giving behavior that I wouldn't expect: In the Optimizations dialog box, add a row (+) and click on the Payoff dropdown. A sub-dialog bo...

Re: DLIST2VDF challenges
When I run the command script with the ?datafile argument (summoning a dialog bos allowing me to pick the data file for processing), the filter allows tab-delimited files only: files with .csv extension are not listed, and so cannot be selected :-( Files with .txt extension do appear. When processin...

Re: DLIST2VDF challenges
In a pinch, I can live with tab-delimited. But CSV files are very common. Guessing the delimiter is a nice-to-have: it would be ok with me if delimiter was specified through one of the arguments to DLIST2VDF, e.g. MENU>DLIST2VDF|?datafile||, for comma delimited MENU>DLIST2VDF|?datafile||t for tab de...

Works like a charm! Friendly suggestion, please add a note to the help file suggesting naming the file with .tab extension, until delimiter guess routine is fixed?
