Re: Vensim DSS Reproducible Crash Bug

Since it looks like the bug varies by Vensim version, let me be more clear about exactly which versions we tested. DSS 6.3C, single-precision, 32-bit, Windows: crashes DSS 6.3G, single-precision, 32-bit, Windows: crashes DSS 6.4D, single-precision, 64-bit, Windows: crashes Multi-context shared objec...

Re: Vensim DSS Reproducible Crash Bug

Sure, here's the vensim.ini file. (I had to zip it because the forum software rejects files with an extension of ".ini").

Re: Vensim DSS Reproducible Crash Bug

I tested using single precision (the default for the Vensim DSS installer) on Windows (32-bit). We also tested a 64-bit Single Precision version of Vensim DSS for Windows. I'm not familiar with whatever is the default on the Linux multi-context shared object, but it's probably single precision as we...

Vensim DSS Reproducible Crash Bug

Hello Ventana Systems folks, We are about ready to release a new version of the Energy Policy Simulator (1.3.0), but we have encountered an odd bug that appears to be an issue in Vensim. In Vensim DSS, our model passes both the error check and the unit check with no problems, and it runs flawlessly ...

Re: Bug Report: Allocate Available Produces Incorrect Results with 2+ Subscripts

Oh, right! Sorry, by the time I was done playing with your version of the Marble Model, I had forgotten that you had mentioned in your post that you included a warning message! Thanks for making this example model- I will look into using this mapping approach in the Energy Policy Simulator. Much app...

Re: Bug Report: Allocate Available Produces Incorrect Results with 2+ Subscripts

Thanks for putting together the modified version of the Marble Model, Tony. It is using techniques that I have not used in the Energy Policy Simulator and would like to investigate, to see if I can make that part of the model automatically adaptive to changes in numbers of elements in the subscripts...

Re: Bug Report: Allocate Available Produces Incorrect Results with 2+ Subscripts

Thanks for the discussion. I just wanted to bring this limitation to your attention, because it requires a troublesome work-around in the Energy Policy Simulator. I do copy everything from 2D to 1D, allocate, and then copy back from 1D to 2D. But I need to keep track of all the elements separately- ...

Bug Report: Allocate Available Produces Incorrect Results with 2+ Subscripts

I wish to use the ALLOCATE AVAILABLE function to allocate a single quantity of items into buckets differentiated by two subscripts. The function sorts the items only into the buckets characterized by the first subscript and fills the other buckets to their capacities, which introduces items into the...

Bug Report: Options Window in Model Reader v6.4E is Blank

Hello Ventana Systems folks, In Model Reader v6.4E (the current version), the "Global Option Settings" window (which you reach by choosing Tools > Options) is blank. See the attached screenshot. In prior versions of Model Reader, this window featured a set of options that applied to the Re...

Can I Include Units in Tab-Separated-Values Output from Command Scripts?

Hello everyone, I have Vensim DSS and use Vensim command scripts to quickly log the values of many variables to a tab-separated-values output file, from multiple scenarios (each defined by its own .cin file). Since Vensim Command Scripts don't natively support loops, IF statements, and other program...

Thank you, that fixed the problem! (I had renamed the installer to indicate the version of model reader- v6.4A - but now I know that I can't do that.)

Re: Bug Report: Problem with Scenario Names 3 Characters or

You're welcome. Glad I could help track down this obscure bug.

I tested it, and you are correct, it works fine with the enclosing folder name "2016-05-11 v1-1-2"

Re: Bug Report: Problem with Scenario Names 3 Characters or

I am using the x32 build for Windows of Vensim DSS, which I downloaded and installed yesterday (v6.4A). However, the bug also happened on Vensim v6.3D (Windows, x32). I'm using a 64-bit installation of Windows 10 Pro. I've tested this some more, and I've determined that it doesn't have anything to d...

Bug Report: Unable to Install Model Reader

Bug Report: Problem with Scenario Names 3 Characters or Less

Hello Ventana folks, I'm writing to report a bug in Vensim v6.4A (which was also present in v6.3D). If I enter a name into the "Simulation results file name" box that is 3 characters or less (such as "ABC") and then push the "SyntheSim" button, Vensim produces the follo...

Re: GET DIRECT functions treat negative numbers as positive

It looks like Model Reader is still at version 6.3, so the negative numbers bug is still in Model Reader. I hope Model Reader can be updated with this bug fix sometime before the SD conference.

Re: Bug Report: Long subscript strings break "Variable" tool

I just tested in Vensim v6.3C and this bug seems to be gone. At least, the models that used to exhibit the problem, like the "BAD" demo model attached to my initial post, no longer have the problem under v6.3C. So that's great!

Re: Bug Report: Background Colors Can't be Assigned in v6.3b

v6.3C seems to have fixed the problem! Thanks so much! I agree the check box is a little silly, considering that "no fill" is one of the color options, and the other color selectors (like the ones for shape color or font color) don't have check boxes. But it's not a big deal- it's great to...

Bug Report: Long subscript strings break "Variable" tool

Hello Ventana Systems folks, I have been running into a strange bug in my model and have narrowed down the cause to something to do with the length of the "Subscripts" line that is applied to different variables. If this line gets too long, then whenever using the "Variable" tool...
