Number of levels for sub models

Post by LAUJJL »

Hi

I am studying sub models. If I use one sub model, it seems to work fine, but if I build a sub model from that sub model a sub_sub_model, the main model does not seem to take into account the sub_sub_model. Does Vensim allow multiple levels of sub models, and if so where is it explained.

Best regards.

If it is not possible to use more than one sub model, one solution is to use one sub model original and to build an equivalent model splitted with sub models to study and test independantly the original sub model, but when used with the main model use the original not splitted model with no sub models. Correct. You cannot have a tree of sub-models.

But what you can do is this. If the sub-model (call it "A" has it's own sub-model (call it "B"), go to the parent model and load "B" first. Then load the sub-model "A" and it should work.

It works miraculously well but seems in contradiction with having not the possbility to build a tree of sub-models. In this case you have a tree of two sub models that works well. JJ

This was a decision we made. If you allow sub-models to have sub-models, it could be easy to end up with an infinite loop. This way, you can still have everything working, but it's easier for the user to understand.

Thank you for the reply. In fact as long as it works, it is okay for me even if I have not understood anything in your explanation. Best regards.
