Comment text formatting options.

Post by efranco »

It would be nice to have more text formatting options within the "Comment" element (e.g., alignment, bullets, multiple lines, etc.).

In the new Vensim 9.0, you can align controls. And you can get multi-line comments by using more than one.

Yes, but it is not that easy to align the text (I tried it with version 9.0 too). It appears that only the whole element (rectangular) is aligned, not the text per se. I tried to use the "Text Position" property (using the "Left" option), but it had no effect.

If I use more than one "Comment" element for multiple lines, I'll have to vertical align all of them manually, which is burdensome.

I use to include several comments in my models aiming to have it "self documented". It is taking me a lot of time to proper align all those elements.

Just sharing some food for thoughts. This is for improving model's UI/UX experience.

I've converted this to a separate thread on the forum rather than start a discussion in the improvements thread.

Can you upload an example of what you are trying to do so we can take a look?

A simple example is attached.

Text comments with different sizes do not get properly aligned using the "Layout > Align > Left". What appears to be aligned is the whole comment element containing a centered text.

I use the comment element for including step-by-step instructions, changelogs, descriptions in my models. For this, I have to manually aligned (horizontally and vertically) dozens of these elements in each view.

It would be nice to have itemized texts.

Thanks - that's helpful.

I think what we really want is some kind of rich text container that avoids the one-line-field constraint. We'll take a look at what's possible. Should be quicker to implement with the new graphics.

Can you upload the model rather than screen shots?
