System Dynamics Models

Post by PSALDANHAM@ALPHA2.CURTIN.EDU.AU »

Hi

I would be very grateful if someone could give me some examples of SD models
where the leverage points are outside the organisation, for a particular
problem, and the policy recommendation is to form a strategic alliance to
overcome the problem. How does one validate such a model and the
recommended policy.

Any comments regarding the feasibility of the above would also be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks

Marina

System dynamics models

Post by "Craig W. Kirkwood" »

I have posted a document "Business Process Analysis Workshops: System
Dynamics Models" to my system dynamics resources web page at URL
http://www.public.asu.edu/~kirkwood/sysdyn/SDRes.htm . This 41 page set of
notes provides hands-on workshops that demonstrate system dynamics
simulation methods.

The required analysis background to understand these workshops can be
obtained by studying "System Dynamics Methods: A Quick Introduction," which
can be downloaded from the web page listed above. Vensim notation is used
for the workshops, and copies of the Vensim PLE models can be downloaded
from the web page. (A quick reference and tutorial for Vensim is also
available from this web page.

Four situations are considered in the workshops: Quality fluctuations in a
manufacturing operation, sales fluctuations, commodity cycles, and the beer
game. The models are adapted from classic system dynamics models, and
these models range in length from 24 to 51 statements. I have used the
workshop assignments in several MBA classes, and they should be appropriate
for most students in the latter part of a one-semester system dynamics course.
