Palermo Conference Update/New Information

Post by Bob Eberlein »

2002 International Conference of the System Dynamics Society
July 28 - August 1, 2002 Palermo, Italy

REGISTRATIONS are higher this year than the last two years at the same point
in time. Conference registration spaces are limited. If you have not
registered, please do. We plan to have a waiting list if we reach
capacity.

SICILIA DREAMS TRAVEL AGENCY has extended the deadline for tours to July
5th. They strongly recommend advance bookings for tours and sightseer
attractions in Palermo and Sicily, as it will not be possible to organize
such mass activities on-site. For more information, please visit their
website at http://www.systemdynamics.siciliadreams.com/ or contact them
by email at systemdynamics@siciliadreams.com

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE of the conference program with presentation times will be
on the conference website by the end of this week.

FINAL SUBMISSIONS AND SUPPLEMENTARY FILES are available for review prior to
the conference on the website at
http://www.systemdynamics.org/conf2002/proceedings/. The printed abstract
proceedings will be on the conference website later this week.

SESSION REPORTERS are needed for events at the conference. If you are
interested in having a byline in the next System Dynamics Newsletter, please
contact Roberta Spencer <system.dynamics@albany.edu> to sign up as a
conference session reporter.

BUSES will run between the Grand Hotel et Des Palmes (downtown Palermo) and
the conference site, the Grand Hotel Villa Igiea at scheduled intervals in
the mornings and afternoons. If you are staying downtown, please pick up the
bus in front of the Des Palmes hotel. The bus will be identified as
associated with the conference. There is also a complimentary bus service
between the two hotels for guests staying at the Grand Hotel Villa Igiea and
the Grand Hotel et Des Palmes. It runs about once every hour. The walk from
downtown to the conference site is about 25 minutes. In addition to the bus
service between the hotels, bus transportation will also be provided to the
Welcome Reception and the Conference banquet.

POSTERS AL FRESCO is a first in Palermo. So that we can enjoy some of the
beautiful Mediterranean weather, poster presentations will be placed
outdoors under protection of a large tent.

WORKSHOPS are scheduled for Thursday. The workshops will be held at the
building of ASSINDUSTRIA (Association of Entrepreneurs - Palermo Province)
in downtown Palermo. Bus transportation will be available from the Grand
Hotel Villa Igiea. It is within close walking distance of the Grand
Hotel et Des Palmes.

GENERAL BUSINESS MEETING will be held on Wednesday morning at 8 am.
President Jim Hines will report on the status of the Society, entertain
suggestions from members, and transact such other items of business as
may be relevant.

WELCOME RECEPTION is scheduled for Monday evening. There will be plenty of
food at this event and it can replace dinner. Our Italian hosts have worked
very hard to create a wonderful menu that will include
- Wine from Cantine Settesoli
- Black bread canape with sweet Gorgonzola cheese
- Canape with sweet robiola cheese and Scottish salmon aneto flavored
