Call for Presentations: SD for supply chains

Post by Henk Akkermans »

Recently, effective management of supply chains has gained unprecedented
interest from academics and practitioners from the fields of mainstream
operations management (OM) and operations research/management science.
Around the world, researchers are starting to employ an SD perspective to
study decentralised supply chains, as more conventional techniques are
showing inherent limitations. Now seems to be the time to bundle our
individual efforts to show the potential of SD for this area.

One excellent venue for doing just that is the upcoming joint EURO/INFORMS
conference in Istanbul, July 6-10 2003. This leading OR/MS conference is
hosted by Prof. Yaman Barlas (see his earlier posting SD4008 of December 4
on this list). Professor Barlas is willing to accommodate one or two
sessions on "SD perspectives on analysis and design of decentralised supply
chains". He strongly encourages all SD researchers active in this particular
area to come and present their work at this conference.

Here, one will not only have the opportunity to exchange insights with
fellow SD researchers, but also to communicate effectively with the large
population of OR/MS researchers focusing on supply chain management that
will gather at this conference. Abstracts for this conference are required
by March 15, 2003. Please check Prof. Barlass earlier mail and
http://www.istanbul2003.org/ for general information.

Even if you cannot make it to Istanbul this Summer, please be so kind as to
inform me by direct E-mail of your work in this area, as it may make sense
to set up some kind of special interest group on this exciting topic. Also,
please forward this message to researchers working in this field that may
not have direct access to the SD list. Finally, the possibility of having a
special issue of the SD Review on this topic is currently being
investigated.

Looking forward to meeting many of you in Istanbul,

Henk Akkermans
