PhD colloquium at 2003 SD Conference NY

Post by "Jeroen Struben" »

Dear students, faculty and all other practitioners,

This year the fourth SD PhD colloquium will be organized at the main conference in New York on Sunday July 20 starting 8:00 AM. Learning from and elaborating on the past experiences, we feel that a separate colloquium would have benefits over a standard parallel paper presentation because common problems related to PhD research in SD can be identified and discussed in more depth, providing a unique opportunity for learning among all attendants.

The objective of the colloquium is therefore to bring together Ph.D. students working on foundations, techniques, tools, and applications to System Dynamics and give them the opportunity to present and discuss their research in a constructive and diverse atmosphere. The colloquium will provide a unique opportunity for student participants to interact with experienced faculty and others in the wider system dynamics community.

In order to achieve this objective, the planned format is to accommodate about eight diverse plenary student presentations that all have a clear research question and well defined open issues for discussion. Information will be updated on the PhD Colloquium website: http://www.planung.bwi.uni-stuttgart.de ... /index.htm, which can also be accessed through the official SD 2003 Conference website.

Call for students

We warmly invite PhD students in the early to middle stages of their research, who are interested in receiving feedback on their PhD proposals. If you are interested in presenting your research proposal at the colloquium and get feedback from the senior researchers in our field, as well as from peers, please send an e-mail including your proposal to Jeroen Struben (jjrs@mit.edu) before May 15, 2003. The proposal should include general information, research topic, discussion topics for the seminar and a letter from the supervisor. All is motivated and explained in detail on he website.

Call for faculty and other interested

A critical success factor is the active attendance of the senior audience. We encourage you to join and share your experience, knowledge, SD-modeling expertise and thoughts with the Ph.D. students. If you think you have an opportunity to contribute to students learning from discussion of work-in-progress (and potentially learn yourself as well), write this date in your agenda and please confirm this to Florian Kapmeier (Florian.Kapmeier@po.uni-stuttgart.de).

We hope to hear from you!

Best regards,

PhD Colloquium Organization,

Florian Kapmeier
