It is nice that you decided to inform SD community about HICSS-36. As one of
the participants in this year event I would like to share with you a bit of
my experience. Your very positive message is nice, but does not reflect
completely the event. Here are some of my comments:
1. Conference was very big and with too many parallel sessions.
2. 14 parallel sessions divided the audience so that SD sessions I attended
were extremely poorly attended (less than 10 people). So, the benfits from
the technical sessions were very limited.
3. Lets see what is the cost you need to bare in order to acrue these
benefits: $500 US for registration; overpriced hotel (banquet dinner that
did not provide sufficient amount of food for all attending); and huge
travel distance for most people (high travel cost).
4. SD tutorial was well attended but was poorly organized as a set of
average lectures (some below average quality). Participants had a minor
role, no opportunity for questions and no learning participation at all.
I think it will be fair that SD list members also receive my comment so that
both views of this event can be available.
Cheers
