SD at HICSS / Request for Contributions and Participation

Post by Jochen Scholl »

Dear SD community,

For the last four decades, every first week in January, the Hawaiian
International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS)is held on one of the
Hawaiian islands. The conference attracts some 750 researchers of various
system science fields, 50 percent of whom come from overseas, making this
conference a truly international academic event. Some 60 percent of all
papers presented at the conference are subsequently converted into journal
articles and book chapters. The conference proceedings are organized and
maintained by IEEE.

For the past few years, we have been running a minitrack under the title of
"Modeling Nonlinear Natural and Human Systems" which has served as a forum
for both SD and agent-based modeling research. This year, we have seen the
first papers with combined AB and SD research designs.

Last year, George P. Richardson joined me in chairing this minitrack greatly
enhancing its visibility. We ran three sessions this year which were well
attended.

Moreover, Khalid Saeed and Atsushi Fukuda s paper under the title "Testing
Design of a Social Innovation-The Environmental Mitigation Banking System
(DTMNN02)" received the highly competitive best-paper award in the Decision
Technologies in Management t rack-congratulations to Khalid and Atsushi!

Andreas Groessler (U Mannheim of Germany), George and I also ran a tutorial
under the title "The History, the Principles, and the Methods of System
Dynamics and its Relationship to Other Fields of Systems Sciences" which
attracted some 55 scholars from other disciplines. Hence, we decided to run
this tutorial again next year.

So, System Dynamics is well received at HICSS!

We would like to invite you to

(1) Join us in holding next years tutorial

(2) Consider the "Modeling Nonlinear Natural and Human Systems" minitrack as
a forum for presenting your research (we will send out the Call for Papers
in February)

We can assure you that both the conference and the location are equally
stimulating!
