Hi
Hope this does not offend anyone. It is not meant to.
I am not a member of the society, have not "paid any dues", and
mostly just look in and learn. I am very much a novice in SD terms
but gain a great deal from this list. It has proved very thought
provoking. At some time in the future I may become more active (I
think I need a little more confidence and a lot more knowledge).
I was thinking around the thread of The List and access to it and
the following thought struck me...
SD is partly about boundaries (defining them, discovering them,
moving them, changing them, reframing them etc ect). It seems
that this is one of the basics that SD works from (am I wrong?).
If you place a strict boundary around the SD list, how ethical is
this? (I think I read something around ethics/inclusion/exclusions
relating to some work done by Churchman). Who are you
excluding, and why? If then there is a boundary not only will this
stop the passive learning taking place by non-members, It will
surely reduce the amount of learning by members, as they "close
the doors" on a subject, which, by its very nature, advocates an
openess in the way it examines the world.
The strength of SD lies in its ability to get people to cross
boundaries. Build the wall and you will suffer from the very thing
you try to get people to overcome.
