Albuquerque Conference News and Updates, International Conference of the
System Dynamics Society --- July 26 - 31, 2009

REMINDER: Call for Papers, Presentations, Workshops and Sessions
OPENING DATE FOR SUBMISSIONS: January 2, 2009
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: March 23, 2009

BONUS DAY - new this year. On Friday, July 31 we will have an extra day
for groups to organize for special hands-on activities. Advance sign up
may be required. More information will be available soon on the conference
website. Tentative Bonus Day session titles include:
Copenhagen Climate Exercise,
Economic Crisis Roundtable: Sharing Models of Problems and Policies,
Inculcating System Dynamics into a Corporate Environment,
Participatory Modeling in Public Policy,
Powersim Studio User Group,
Energy & Environmental Special Interest Groups Meeting, and
Utilizing System Dynamics Expertise in K-12 Education.

The NEWCOMER ORIENTATION Session is a special event for first-time
attendees of the conference. This session is scheduled for a half hour on
Sunday afternoon. Newcomers and veteran attendees (guides) will be brought
together based on their topics of interest. The guides will provide
information to help the newcomers maneuver through the conference
resourcefully and get the most out of the conference experience. If you
are a newcomer and would like to participate in this program, please check
the box on the registration form for first-time participant. For more
information and other newcomer events, please visit the Society website.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: Nominations are invited for the Jay W. Forrester
Award, the Dana Meadows Student Paper Prize, and the System Dynamics
Applications Award. OUTSIDE AWARDS: The Barry Richmond Scholarship Award
and the Lupina Young Researchers Prize will be presented this year. Please
refer to the Society website for more details on all awards. The web
facility to submit your paper for award consideration will be available on
January 2 when the submission system opens.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarships covering conference registration fees and in
some cases hotel expenses for the conference days are available.
Information on scholarships is available on the conference website. The
web facility to apply for a scholarship will be available on January 2
when the submission system opens.

INFORMATION on the PhD Colloquium, the Modeling Assistance Workshop, and
other topics is available on the conference website. Watch for future
announcements regarding a variety of events.

EARLY DECISION FOR VISA OR FUNDING PURPOSES: Although not recommend in
general, the program committee will review a paper for early decision for
authors who need a long lead-time to acquire a visa and/or funding. For
details on how to receive an early review, please consult the Submission
System Instructions found on the Conference Website.

The REGISTRATION BROCHURE and ONLINE CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FORM will be
available soon.

CARBON NEUTRAL: The System Dynamics Society has partnered with
Carbonfund.org as a means of offsetting the carbon emissions associated
with the 27th International Conference in July, 2009. The Society has
taken the first step in making this event carbon neutral by offsetting 15
tons of the conference emissions and encourages attendees to offset their
individual carbon impact as well. More information on how to participate
will follow.
