Problem with Vensim Loading

Post by yobiman »

Hi
I have been using Vensim for many years. Recently my vensim installation seems to have become corrupted. When I load a new model I get a message "Unable to open 34:0,,,.mdl to read model". Vensim opens and can run simulations etc, but the graphing functionality doesn't work.
I tried reinstalling Vensim but it didn't seem to fix the problem.
Any ideas?
Many thanks
Phil

It sounds like the model got corrupted during saving. Can you click View->As sketch and see if it returns?

You might try reinstalling, but being sure to to check the "Reset Initialization Settings" box - it could be that your vensim.ini or toolset files were corrupted somehow.

Many thanks.. Unfortunately it didn't seem to work.
I have two versions of vensim.ini on my machine. I wonder if this has something to do with it?

Thanks
Phil

Generally, that shouldn't matter.

You could try renaming them (e.g., vensim.inix) temporarily - Vensim will start with default settings if the .ini is missing. But the effect of that should be the same as a reinstall that resets the .ini, so that's probably not the problem.

Tony's test - whether you can open other models - might be more informative here.

Many thanks Tom,
I have renamed the ini files but still seem to have the same problem, which makes me suspect that something else has been corrupted.

When I try to create a new model (or open vensim for the first time) the error message appears

I am able to load existing models or for that matter ignore the message and build a new model. I manually reloaded the toolbar etc.. The only thing that seems to be messed up is the graph tool - which has a black background. Not a big deal

Thanks again

Can you send me some images of the graph problem (vensim@vensim.com)?

I cannot recreate any of the errors you are mentioning.

And did anything change on your computer before the problems with Vensim? Anything at all (new graphics driver, anti-virus, etc).

Nothing that I can think of.. Perhaps it is something more fundamental to the machine. I will rebuild it and see if the problem goes away
Many thanks for your help
