Varformat errors when exporting data
Varformat errors when exporting data
After running my model for 10 scenarios, I ran into an issue when attempting to export the dataset to an Excel file.
Vensim would give me a Varformat error with a random number attached to it. Sometimes even multiple varformat errors, before eventually crashing and not creating any export file. After messing around with the export options and other data formats like CSV and .dat files, they all give the same varformat errors and subsequent crash.
I'm admittedly not very experienced with Vensim, and could not fix the issue myself. Previous forum posts also didn't help, they suggest it has something to do with subscripts but its beyond my comprehension.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I'm open to any suggestions.
(The MDL model file is attached.)

Re: Varformat errors when exporting data
What version of Vensim are you using?
And can you upload your vensim ini file, you'll find it in %APPDATA%\vensim (it should be vensimdp.ini or vensim.ini).
I have no errors when exporting on my machine here.

Re: Varformat errors when exporting data
Version: Vensim Professional 8.0.9 (Double Precision) x64
Unfortunately I could not upload the .ini file because it's not supported file type. So I copy-pasted the contents into a Word document and uploaded that instead. If there is a better way around this please let me know.

INI files should be allowed now.

Re: Varformat errors when exporting data
I'm still getting a "Invalid file extension: vensimdp.ini" error when uploading the .ini file.
So here is my second attempt at uploading the Word document, because apparently I did not attach it with my last message.

Re: Varformat errors when exporting data
Are you using a command script or the menu?

Re: Varformat errors when exporting data
I assume you are referring to how I attempt to export my data?
I use the Model > Export Dataset... dropdown menu.
Then I select the dataset I want to export, leave all settings untouched (except for the Export as option where I select the XLSX file).

Re: Varformat errors when exporting data
Can you update to Vensim 8.1.0? I'm not getting the error in the latest version of Vensim (but do in 8.0.9).

Re: Varformat errors when exporting data
This morning I installed Vensim pro 8.1.0. Unfortunately, when running it I get the error "The program can't start because api-ms-win-core-verison-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer".
After spending 3 hours trying various solutions found online, I could not fix it. I'm still using Windows 7 so that may be the issue. (My Vensim pro 8.0.9 still works fine).

Re: Varformat errors when exporting data
Windows 7 is no longer supported. There does not seem to be a solution for the missing DLL error.

Re: Varformat errors when exporting data
Thank you for the help! I will ask one of my peers running Windows 10 to export the datasets for me.
(It would be nice if the Vensim download center stated that only windows 10 is supported, it would have saved me a lot of time )

Re: Varformat errors when exporting data
The only solution I've seen (but not tried) is to install the Win 8.1 SDK. So possibly a win7 sdk would also work. https://t.co/W0BrQzYQBw
