Id suggest consulting the sys dyn bibliography available from SD society.

Last but not least, spend some time defining the problem/delineating

University Management
Hi,
I am looking for any models that you might have or know of that include
University management. I am working with a situation for university
acreditation as an change management strategy.
If you have any: models, papers, books, publications that include such
subjectbehaviors I would be grateful to receive them. Thank you for your
help!

University Management
Using System Dynamics as a Tool for Decision Making in Higher Education
Management
25-26 June 1999
at the Royal Society London for the seminar on 25 June and at South Bank
University, London for the workshop on 26 June
This international meeting, sponsored by Worcester Polytechnic Institute,
Massachusetts, South Bank University, London and the Center for Educational
Studies at the Claremont Graduate School, California, designed for an
audience of higher education managers, will examine the potential for using
system dynamics as a tool to aid policy and financial decisions within
higher education. The Society is fortunate in having been able to attract
leading international exponents of this approach. The challenges now
facing higher education institutions call for considerations of new ways of
gathering and assessing information; speakers experienced in building
system dynamics models and using the result in education planning, in
budgeting and in the management of academic quality and faculty resources
will discuss their work and give detailed case studies of their approaches.
Day One - The Royal Society, Carlton House Terrace, 10am to 7pm
This seminar will state the case for the use of systems dynamics modelling
in higher education.
Speakers will include:
Lord Dearing
Professor Michael Radzicki, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, U.S.
Professor Carol Frances, Claremont Graduate University, U.S.
Professor Geoffrey Coyle, recently of Cranfield University and Visiting
Professor at South Bank University
Professor Yaman Barlas, Bogazici University, Turkey
Michael Kennedy, Head of Division of Information Management, South Bank
University
The days proceedings will conclude with a reception at The Royal Society
to enable participants to continue to network with the speakers.
Day Two - South Bank University, 10am to 4pm
Training facilities will provide a hands on training session for delegates
interested in learning how to set up system dynamics models for their own
institutions in order to help make better decisions on key issues in higher
education, whether relating to quality, finance, resources or policy
decisions. This session will be led by Michael Radzicki.
The cost for the two days is =A3225 ($300). You are advised to book as
quickly as possible as the training day has a finite number of places
available. If you wish to attend only Day One there will be a discount
available (contact SRHE).

Dear Nayibe;
We have been doing some work in this area here at Bogazzici University.
You may get more information about our university management game (UNIGAME)
by connecting to our research group (SESDYN) site at:
http://www.ie.boun.edu.tr/sesdyn/about.html
You can download our related short paper at:
http://www.ie.boun.edu.tr/faculty/barlas
You can also find our papers in Proceedings of Symposium on Applied
Computing 96, Philadelphia, or Proceedings of System Dynamics Conference
96, Boston.
After you read these, let us know if you would like more detailed
information or the game itself.
best regards

University Management
Hi Lilia,
Alan David mentioned the SDR article which identified a range of
current management issues and related them to archetypes. A paper
describing a model built to address a problem of competitive allocation of
resources within a University is:
" When Strategic plans are not enough: challenges in University management"
published in System Dynamics: An international Journal of Policy
Modelling, Volume X(2),1998, 55-84.
A more qualitative paper on the same theme is " Systems Thinking: A missing
component in Higher Educational Planning" currently in press and to appear
shortly in Higher Education Policy.
Another paper "Are Universities Learning Organisations?" is among the
pre-Conference Workshop materials prepared for ICSD-98:International
Conference on System Dynamics , held at Kharagpur, India, December 1998.
Sincerely,
Peter Galbraith
