The role of women in management of organizations

Post by Nuria Calvo »

Good morning,

My name is Nuria Calvo, I work in the university of A Coruña, in Spain, and
actually I am envolved in the design of a model to study the situation of
the women managers of the spanish organizations. For the last two decades,
we have observed a big change in the level of education of women . However,
this situation is not reflected in the same level in the professional
development of women in the organizations.

I would like to know if any of you are working in any similar model adapted
to other country or situation.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards

Hi Nuria,

My colleague, Peter Hovmand, and I are presenting a paper in Oxford regarding the challenges of "unconscious" gender bias in organizations. It is not specific to women in management, yet says a lot about women in traditionally male fields and organizations. I would be happy to share our thoughts on this, as well as interested in what you are discovering.

Regards,
Deborah

I forgot to mention -- there is a model done many years ago by Jack Pugh et al. that looks into the issues of increasing the representation of blacks in management. It would be an interesting resource for you.

"Introduction of Minorities into Management" by A.L. Frohman, H. Morgan, and A.L. Pugh III. Chapter 32 of Managerial Applications of System Dynamics, E. Roberts ed. Cambridge, MA: MIT Press, 1978.
