If one needs to take a pre-existing stock-flow model and represent it in causal loop diagram form are there alternatives to simply re-creating a separate model, making the levels auxilliaries and adding all connection polarities ?
Thoughts, experiences appreciated.

creating causal loop diagrams from a model
There´s a fairly easy way to do that. Once you have the flow diagram:
-Create a new view.
-Select button "model variable" and choose the variables you want to consider. This button will introduce the variable considered AND all its causes. (Instead, if you use button "shadow variable", only that variable will be introduced and not its causes)
-Once you have have them laid out, you can convert the <shadow variables> in model variables with button "model variable".
-The last step is to hide the variables you do not need (button "hide wand") and fix arrows
