The result of a survey undertaken by LEAN (LeanEducationAcadamicsNetwork;
http://www.teachinglean.org) mentioned in this e-mail of Bill Parr focuses indirectly on System Thinking, even though Lean Thinking hasn't been much connected to System Thinking/System Dynamics yet in public discussion.

The point is that System Thinking is necessary to understand the complex system that a company represents. Lean Thinking and using lean methods (such as Kaizen, 5S, SMED, Flow, Pull, Value Stream Mapping, etc.) are a way to improve the system quality and outcome requires System System due to ST.

Lean Thinkinig and System Thinking are -from my point of view from a practioneers background- strongly connected and well to be used in combination to improve business processes.

As Doug has already mentioned in an earlier posting the teaching of ST and SD at school and universities is essential to understand our complex world (and companies are an immanent part where we live and work quite a while of our active life).

So long

I'm absolutelly according with Doug Parish: SD is essential to contribute to understand our very complex world.

I live in Argentine. Here, SD is a methodology applied for a few people.

One of them, Carlos Méndez Acosta, who is the Dean of the Agricultural Faculty from UB University , has the objectiv of teaching all the career with SD.

In my own case, I teach Philosophy with Sd and I very proud with the results my pupils' goals.

Finally, Sd, Balanced Scorecard and Mangement Cockpit is a logical secuency to manage organizations.

SD couldn't died!

Be well
