The importance of thematic SIGs and Chapters

Dear SDS members,

After visiting and discussing with several colleagues in Bergen, I came
home with a clear idea that I would like to share with you: the thematic
SIGs and Chapters seem to be the "road to fame" for System Dynamics.

Most scientific journals focus on applications rather than methodology -
just look at their names - and System Dynamics has already appeared in
several "speciality" journals (e.g. economics, management).

Now we have an opportunity with the new thematic "application fronts"
(i.e. the SIGs and Chapters): the creation of "SD schools" in the
already established disciplines/ scientific applications. So, System
Dynamics can mark its presence not only as a methodology with occasional
applications (which may have looked to some as examples of
applicability), but also as a set of nuclei of solid and coordinated
practice in the classic scientific areas.

So, besides contributing to the SD methodology and besides publishing
your individual thematic/ application articles, DO support the SIGs and
(thematic) Chapter(s): get involved, share, disseminate, organize,
create.

Best regards to all,
Tasso
