The December, 2004 issue of WIRED Magazine contains an interesting article about a counterintuitive approach to traffic control (http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/12.12/traffic.html).
You might this find interesting from a case study perspective. The article might also be a good exhibit to share with people who wonder how systems thinking and system dynamics is useful.
