Society members may be interested in a very readable fishery paper in the newest edition of the on-line journal: Ecology and Society. This synthesis paper by James Wilson of the University of Maine is very much worth reading by system dynamicists who deal with fisheries and other natural resources.
Although it is not, in a strict sense, a system dynamics paper (if there is such a thing), there is plenty of discussion of complex systems, feed-back, and the difficulty of managing such systems.
This synthesis paper is: Wilson, J. A. 2006. Matching social and ecological systems in complex ocean fisheries. Ecology and Society 11(1): 9. [online]
URL: http://www.ecologyandsociety.org/vol11/iss1/art9/
SDS members may also be interested in this journal as a good example of a high quality on-line journal. The link takes you to the on-line version of
the paper (which allows feed-back from readers). There is also a small
link at the top of the first page that will give you a downloadable pdf version.
My personal view is that this type of journal is the future of publishing...
providing high quality information for ""free"" and creating a wider impact
for the ideas published.
I am cross-posting this into the Environment SIG list where we may have a bit of discussion about the paper.
