Initialize stock in terms of parameter

Post by MaxiKing »

Hi!

I am documenting the equation for a stock variable and want to initialize (set initial value) the stock based on another variable, specifically Total Population. I entered Total Population in the Initial Value box. However, whenever I click ok and want to close the functions tab Vensim keeps saying "The following inputs were not expected (but are used): Total Population".

I followed an official instruction that told me to type the Total Population in the Initial Value Box. I need to alter that parameter easily for sensitivity and policy testing so typing in a numerical value is not an option...

Have you had this problem before or does anyone know what to do?

Thanks so much!

If you are using PLE, you need to draw the arrow first from "Total population" to your "Population" variable. Then you can enter it in the initial value box and all should be ok.

Hi!

Thanks for the answer. It would work like this. However, the population variable is a stock and as far as I know should not have polarity links pointing vom auxiliary variables to the stock. Is there another way I can make this work?

Thanks.

Can you upload the model so we can see?

The arrow will be hidden after you make the definition.
