My most valuable system dynamics book is John Stermans textbook:
Business Dynamics: Systems Thinking and Modeling for a Complex World.
But thats a pretty obvious choice.
One of my favorite simulation books that doesnt often get read by sd people is:
Serious Play: How the Worlds Best Companies Simulate to Innovate
by Michael Schrage
Near the end of the book Schrage develops a formula for determining the ROI of
simulations which he calls Mean Time to Payback. He also has a lengthy
explanation of why spreadsheet simulations have been so popular, which is
useful reading for determining what we all need to do to better promote system
dynamics.
I have a list of these and some of my other favorite books with links on our
