Time series data import with PLE

Hi community,

I am trying to import time series data into Vensim. Therefore, I tried to solve the example of the User’s Guide first. Unfortunately, I am not able to do this so far, although I tried to do it exactly the way it is explained in the manual. The biggest problem seems to be that I only have the PLE version and thus functions like GET XLS DATA aren’t supported.
Nonetheless, I managed to get the .dat file into the model and it is also displayed as a graph when I click on the variable and then on the graph function (screenshot 1). So, the following steps worked:
https://www.vensim.com/documentation/21160.htm
https://www.vensim.com/documentation/21165.htm

But still, I cannot run the simulation because an equation for the variable is missing (screenshot 2). To be more precise, the problem starts here https://www.vensim.com/documentation/21170.htm. I don’t know why but I don’t have the Set Up a Simulation button as well as I don’t have the toolbar… Consequently, I cannot define the variable and the dataset as I should.

You would really help me, if you could have a look at the problem and maybe give me an advice on how to import time series data with the PLE version.

In the attachment you’ll find some screenshots of the problem.

Thank you so much!

You cannot do this in PLE. Only PLE+, Pro and DSS allow access to external data.

Thank you very much for your quick and informative answer.

So now that I know that an external import of time series data does not work with PLE, is there a way to define something like an array? This array should just be able to define 20 different contstants for a set of 20 years.

A hint but also a reference to the handbook would help me a lot and would also improve my weekend so much. :D

Thank you in advance!

You could use a lookup table (x axis as time, y axis as the values you need).
