Hello,

I have an error that I can’t understand:
When I click on «simulate» button, nothing happens.
I could also saw errors:
- When I load (afer opening the model), it indicates errors like «VarX is not used in the model», and then returns «RMS3321» or crash. If i check synthax at the «VarX is not used in the model», then it return me Varformat error 0 and then crash.
- If I try to use Synthesim, it indicates «Can only use this in sketch view» (while I’m in sketch view)
- Even Function Example cannot run
- I have tried to uninstall/re-install Vensim DSS, it is still the same

I think it comes from the moment where I uninstalled Vensim reader (because it became default launcher of .mdl files), maybe that can help.

I am using DSS 8.2.1 on Windows

Also are you using the new beta GUI or standard Vensim one?

Do you think it is a model problem ? I have tried with some models and also Vensim Example or models, nothing runs.

No models at all work?

We've seen some computers over the years where permissions were not standard. In these cases, a custom link to launch Vensim has worked. I've attached a document showing how to do this. Can you try this and see if it helps?

No model at all can run.
I figured out that there only were Venread.ini and Vensimdp.ini in the folder, even thought I uninstalled Vensim reader and unistalled/re-installed Vensim DSS. Vensim.ini doesn’t exist.
Maybe I should retrieve that specific file ?

vensimdp.ini is the correct file to use to create the shortcut. The fact it exists suggests that is not the problem.

Can you take some screenshots and show us exactly what is happening?

I have made screenshot of manipulations on a Function Example in the PNG attached

1. Did things changed when you tried creating the custom link to launch Vensim?

2. What is the full path to the model you are opening? Do you have permissions to write to that particular folder?

The shortcut to Vensim.ini only opens it to me a text file, and the Function Example is in the Public User folder of my computer, thus I have no problem to access it (other model at different paths also do not open)

Can you give me a screen shot of the new shortcut to launch Vensim and what you see when you use that shortcut?

Can you try putting a model in your "My Documents" folder and opening it from there?

Also, what operating system are you using?

Here it is.
It has been the same in the document folder. I am under Windows 10 for companies. But the only thing I think changed before the apparition of the errors was installing and then uninstalling Vensim reader.

ok, you haven't created the shortcut properly. This is a shortcut to the vensimdp.ini file, you need a shortcut to Vensim and pass in a different INI file.

Ok, I saw
That still does not work. First it tells me «The model C:\users\ovidal\documents\mdl.tmp does not exist - can’t open»
Then it creates one, I can open it but the problem of simulations remains.

I'm not sure what to suggest.

Do you have access to another computer you can try this on?

Is there anything in the error log? This should be in %appdata%\Roaming\Vensim\vensimdp.err.

I would be tempted to manually delete or rename %appdata%\Roaming\Vensim and c:\program files\Vensim (or C:\Program Files (x86)\Vensim if 32 bit) and do a clean reinstall.

I finally unistalled Vensim, deleted all folders and reinstalled it. I also changed the installation path.
Now everything seems to work well, I don’t really understand why, but I can normally run simulations.
